Just thought it might interest everyone. My 2005 excursion had new rotors pads and calipers replaced last thursday due to a pulsation when stopping. Everything was covered under factory warranty but I wonder how long these new ones might last?

The dealer attributed it to driving through a puddle. Something about a hard spot on the rotor. I have no idea what that means or how to reduce it from happening in the future. All I know is they turned the rotors until they were out of spec and then replaced the entire braking system on each wheel.

Seriously long logic discussions about brake pads and rotors......

some say wrong or uneven torque on wheels and warps the rotors...
some say improper break in of the new pads and rotors...

some say get new harder rotors....

I may never know what really happened. This is the 16th vehicle (new) that I have owned and the first to ever have this problem. I attribute it to either uneven wheel torque or terrible rotors. The service mgr says this happens alot on the ex's. Oh well, I doubt I will ever have to buy rotors or pads as long as I own this thing-

Thanks for the insight-

And, my bad, welcome too !!!!

One thing also about the Ex - it's probably the BIGGEST vehcile we've ever owned...

at every 5000 miles when I have my tires rotated, I always insist that they use a torque wrench and tighten in a proper pattern to balance the load ....

don't know if this is it, but ever since I started doing this, I've not had any rotor issues.... dunno

Ben,

If you haven't picked up your Ex yet check out this article. In fact, read it anyway. It'll tell you how to properly break in your new pad and rotors.
