I shelled out $800 for some new Michelins at Discount Tire a 4 weeks ago, hoping for a Towncar-like ride on my daily 120 mile plus ride to and from work in DFW area.

Had some higher speed vibrations, that I thought were more suspension/front end related, but thought I'd take it by Disount Tire for a fresh balancing after 2000 + miles on the new slightly oversized highway tread Michelins. Found out that all 4 factory wheels were out of round, some worse than others as the balancer guy showed me with a hammer handle set inside the rim as the tire spun on the machine.

Well, I did buy the very clean X used at 104K from a Houston dealer, so who knows the abuse it may have been thru, and as the tire guy said he "could balance them and will show improvement but will not last as the tires will develop flat spots" and will vibrate again with more miles. Made sense to me and all I wanted was a smooth vibration free ride.

So I checked out Ebay, and other sources.. finally settling back with Discount Tire's aftermarket wheels. Bought a set and they mounted my nearly new tires on them today. Rides smooth as silk on the road now. Not too sure of the weight rating as no one at Discount could ever really answer my questions on that, but I do not tow anything, just up and down the hiway with me each day, do I thought it'd be okay.

Now, after I got them home I realized...like a freak'n Dumb A**...."NO HOLES FOR THE FRONT HUBS" on my 4x4 Limited. I know they are auto hubs....and have worked fine the very few times I've switched them on....I would like to have access to them if needed, without having to pull the front wheels off to ge to the hubs.

Guess I need to go back to Discount and see if there are open hub caps, for these cheap $95, Chinese made wheels....but I bet there aren't.

$465 total, but one of them had a small scratch after mounting ( they told me of it) and I said hell, knock off $50 and I'm happy...and they did. The best I saw on Ebay was $250 for the used set plus $100 shipping and who knows if they are out of round too??

Guess I'll have to get the dremel tool out and bastardize some wallered out holes to do what I want. I bet that will look sharp, ya think?

That's what I get for trying to "poor-boy" this deal...HUH?

Which size tires and what size, make wheels did you go with? Most aftermarket wheel sets come with open hub covers for the 4x4 fronts, discount probably ordered by mistake the 4x2 set instead of the 4x4 which is what you need, they oughta do a straight exchange with ya no problem it's just the time taking the Excursion back to correct the error on their part.
