Hey guys,

I have a 2000EX PSD with 110k on it and I am the 3rd owner. I have had it for about a year now and it drove like a champ. It had the SCT 1700 installed on it. It recently started acting up on me. From a cold start it runs fine until it gets up to operating temp, then it starts missing and chugging like a pig. It seems like it's only running on 4 cylinders. It died on me once sitting at a light, but then restarted. I bought an OEM CPS sensor on Ebay, removed the SCT program, and disconnected the batteries for about an hour. I installed the new CPS and I took it for a ride and everything seemed fine until it warmed up, then same thing again. I was cruising at about quarter throttle,40mph and it starts missing and chugging again. I gave it about 3/4 throttle and it dies on me. I threw it into neutral and it started up again, and I limped it home. It has really poor power, but enough to get it home.

I thought for sure the new CPS would fix the problem as it is similar to others on this forum. Is there anyway to Ohm out the sensor to see if it is good? My next purchase is going to be the SCT 1705 so I can check codes. My check engine light is on, and has been since I bought it, but the previous owner had a homeade intake with a hole drilled in it for the air intake sensor, I thought the check engine light was on for that. I guess not. I just got a factory air box from a friend, going to put that on tomorrow. Throw me some suggestions that I can look into. Thanks in advance guys!!! This site has helped me out a ton already.

Howdy Bobby and Welcome to FordExcursions.com

There's many variables that could be causing the running ability issues but you're gonna have to run a code scan to pull up the pesky DTC's so we can see whats causing probs.

When is the last time you changed your air and fuel filter?

I've replaced two CPS's on the X since owning at 104K miles. The first time was at 114K the second at 124K miles. Around 130K miles the SES light came on and has not come off. My OBD2 ready ran the code and it came back with a bad #8 glow plug so all 8 were replaced and still the SES is on. My wifes cousin a 30 year diesel mechanic checked codes with high big buck Snap on reader and he came back with no codes. The X now has 153K miles, bone stock and seems to run like my 212K mile 99 diesel.

Air filter and fuel filter are going to be replaced as well. It has a K&N cone filter on it now attached to an aluminum tube. I will be putting the stock airbox back in with a K&N panel filter. The funny thing is that it runs perfect from a cold start up until it reaches operating temp. I'll throw the above mentioned at it then go from there. I'm working on getting the SCT 1705 now, or the Edge tuner so I can pull the codes.

Hey Bobby,
Any word on your engine troubles? I agree with what Bill said. Until you scan for codes, you could waste a lot of $$ throwing parts at it. Not sure, but check some of your local parts stores (Auto Zone, Pepboys, etc) as they may be able to run a scan for you to help diagnose the problem. Hope you get it resolved soon.
