So the info on the Expedition-EL is on the street - pretty sad IMHO
All the talk is "Where's the Diesel?" 5.4L?
All the usual excuses - won't fit - too costly to engineer - etc, etc, etc
So what! Its a baby truck anyway you look at it
Try this:
Take one F250/F350 - Four doors - loose the pick-up bed - weld on enclosed
body
All mechanicals remain the same
Don't have the tooling?
HMMMMMMM!!!!!
You used to call it Excursion

The EL is a fine product for its intended market. I don't think it was ever designed as a DIRECT replacment for the Excursion. All the rumors you heard were just that: rumors.
Maybe Ford, in their wisdom, will bring to market another heavy hauler when the 07 Super Duty's are redesigned. However, the market will have to ask for it and Ford will have to advertise it. Neither happened with the Excursion. Selling only 10% of Suburban sales and no advertising of the strengths of the Ex is what eventually killed it.
However, the market HAS been asking for more cargo room in the Expedition. (Just look at Suburban 1500 series sales) In fact, one of the main reasons why I got out of MY 03 Expedition was the lack of cargo room. Other than that the interior was great but the drivetrain was somewhat anemic. The 5.4L & this new 6-speed (although I do wonder about the 2 OD gears) should help pep it up. Hopefully, they've cured the throttle lag issues that used to plague my 04 5.4L F-150 until I put a tuner to it.

Ken
Agree with all you say re: place in the sun for Expedition-EL
I'm sure it will be nice for what it is and will fill the niche
However, does not fill MY niche
Want big diesel and enclosed and heated back
No need for pick-up
Hey, so I'm picky - thats why I have an Excursion now
