I have two questions.
1. I bought my 2002 Ford PSD used and I have changed the oil in it ever since. The last time I was up under there changing the oil about two weeks ago, I noticed some oil that has leaked out on both sides between the block and the head. It isn't like oozing out but you can see the oil that has come out over time. I believe this is the head gasket that is leaking. I am much more familiar with non diesel motors then diesel motors. It is on both sides of the motor back towards the firewall, between the block and the head.. Now, my X has 74k miles on it and I have been running synthetic oil since 32k miles. Is this normal with seeing some small oil on theere? Is this something I can go in and bitch to Ford and have them replace it under warranty? Would this be co vered under the 100k PSD warranty? I could see if this problem gets worse on it being real costly down the line to fix it.
2. My rear DVD player has stopped reading DVD's. I have tried the old DVD cleaner and that didn't work. I have read on a few sites that you can go in and adjust the laser beam by adjusting a small pot (it is a trial and error process). I took the unit out and looked at it, as well as cleaned it. I didn't have any luck. Now the question is, if I take it to Ford I am sure I will get killed on the price to fix it. Does anyone know any shops I can send them the DVD unit and they will fix it? My only other choice is buy a used unit off of E-bay. The only problem is the 2000-2002 DVD players are hard to find on Ebay. Also, sometimes you just can't buy the player on e-bay, it is the entire rear overhead entertainment system which gets kind of expensive. At this moment in time I would prefer to stick with the stock DVD player.
Thanks....

Not sure about the DVD--
However on the oil leak-friend of mine had an 02 F250 with the 7.3PSD. It had the same thing going on. Believe it was the rear main seal. I would take it into the dealer--what have you got to lose. I believe that engine carries a 100K warranty-I know the new ones do.

The 7.3L engine should have the 5 year/100k mile warranty with a $100 deductible after 3 years/36,000 miles. The dealer will add a dye supplement to the oil and have you come back in a few days to put the black light on it to trace the leak sources down,on our '02 both valve covers started a slight oil leak which was solved by tightening down the bolts a little.
I went with the basic $40 DVD/MP3 player which goes under the 2nd row seat hooked to 7.5" LCD monitors hung from the headrests so any of the components are easily replacable/servicable

I have the same year truck, 02 7.3L and had the Excat same thing happen to me. First it turned out to be the valve covers leaking at the rear. It gave the apperance that the head gasket was leaking. The dealer put dye in the oil and found it to be the valve cover gaskets. Covered under the 100K warrenty. That was around 58K. Recently, I noticed the same problem again at 98,000. This time it turned out to be the head plug in the rear, which in turn would look like the heads were leaking. And my lower tubo boot was loose causing oil seepae. They also tightend my cat tubes. This was also covered under the 100K warrenty. Shes bone dry, and a 100 bucks later !
I thought the same thing that the heads were leaking. Nope. Just have them put the dye in the oil drive it for like 500-1000miles, then take it back so now the dye has got real good circulation and leaked out so when they black light it they will be able to determine the problem.
Also, if you have not had it in for service, have them check and or replace the pedistal seals and high pressure seals. They did this for me at like 40K while I had it in there for for the tire recall. They weren't leaking but the guy said that there were some improvents and thell leak later? Dont know but who cares its nevered leaked in these aeras and Ive got about 101K now. |

Thanks for the replies....
"check and or replace the pedistal seals and high pressure seals"
Did they charge you for this, if so how much? Or was it covered under warranty?
