Considering the purchase/implementation of a Hypertech III for a 2000/6.8 Liter V10. I tow a 17' Lowes Roughneck with a 50 HP Johnson for duck/muskie hunting from VA through PA into Canada pretty regularly (several times per year). Will the tuner help with towing (not really concerned with the day to day stuff)? Thanks for the input. Andy |

I have the Hypertech on mine and it does improve performance. To get that in the V10, you must be willing to burn premium unleaded. I don't really tow anything of any size so I am not much help on that. My instinct is to say that it would not be an "Oh Wow!" experience. You can change your transmission shift points which definitely should help in towing but some of the guys who tow can perhaps chime in on this as I imagine that will increase tranny temps some. It basically advances the timing on the engine to get max performance. |

Thanks, David. After posting I found a Dyno table on the Hypertech site that showed relatively insignificant gains in both HP and more importantly, torque. |

Hey Andy==just thought I'd let you know..I put a AEM cold air induction system in last weekend. Now THAT in conjunction with the Hypertech made a considerable difference to me. Wish I had know that about 2 years ago. As far as gas mileage goes--its about 1 mpg better around town and that's with me testing my new found horseys. My X is an 01 and it's air flow was definitely constricted. On a hot day, I could always hear the V10 sucking air during the first few miles. That has all gone away.
Good luck!! |

Tuners can actually help the transmission by eleminating the soft/slipping shift with firmer, quicker shifts. This actually REDUCES heat. I will never tow again without my Superchips tuner.
It has an 87 octane program for those times that I do not want to burn 92+. I'm sure the Hypertech is the same.
