I've been reading these post's for a long time now. And you guys are great. Now I need help! I have a 00 X 4x4 7.3 w/ 78K miles. The other day my wife went to start it and nothing. I mean nothing. The engine doesn't even crank. Later I went home and it started right up. Then it happened again today. I put the key in the ignition, wait for the light to go off and turn the key to start and nothing. The only thing I hear are relays clicking. I don't know what it could be. Also, I just changed the CPS on it about 3 months ago not because it was bad but just because of my mileage and what I've read here on the threads and I don't have any aftermarket alarms. I'll take any suggestions you have. Thanks in advance... |

We had the same thing happen with our 99.5 F250 Powerstroke and it turned out to be the Transmission TV cable linkage was out of adjustment and we had that quickly repaired at the Ford dealer.

The issue could also reside in going bad starter and/or the key ignition switch,I'm taking optomistic shots at possibilities.

Well just got home from work and low and behold she started right up. I think it's PMS . First thing tommorrow morning I'm taking the starter off and having it checked. I'd do it now but it's raining cats and dogs. Does any one know if the starter solenoid is on the starter or seperate?
Thanks Again....

Ryan it'll either be the transmission linkage or the linkage position sensor on the side of the transmission is out of adjustment.
The Cam Position Sensor is another possible option as it behaves in the same manner.

What I had was a dead spot in the starter. That's why it would start randomly. Since replacing the starter I haven't had any more problems. So, since I have soo much time on my hands I'm uprgrading the front end to an 05'. Can't seem to find an 05' w/ a 7.3. Good luck |
