I feel I must post this to help another from learning what I did the hard. I have found that 00 Excursions manufactured PRIOR to 3/22/99 take a DIFFERENT rotor, at least those manufactured by Wearever than the rest. Excursions manufactured AFTER 3/22/99 take another part number. Here is what happened, felt some grinding during brake application, stopped in the local Parts America and picked up some Bendix pads and figured it was too late in the day to get rotors turned so I purchased new and would get the old ones turned later and keep as spares. When I get home all went pretty well, rotors were stuck a little which was expected. What was not expected was when the caliper mount/backing plate was tighened it prevented the rotor from turning. The caliper mount/backing plate was right up against the rotor not allowing it to turn. Now, if you are only doing one wheel at a time there is no way possible to mess this up. So, I start doing some comparing. When an old and new rotor are lined up outside braking surface to outside braking surface you can see there was an offset difference of about a 1/4 inch. Called Parts America back, they now ask for my actual manufacture date. Tell him 9 of 99, he goes "Oh, you need a different part number.....I have'em but they are $40 more EACH". Said, no thanks, I'll return these and have mine turned till I find a high performance set. So, in case one runs into this problem like did and runs in to check the forum for an answer I hope this help or give you a starting point. Sorry to be long winded, have to vent a little too. Thank-You for reading and just trying to return the many favors the forums has done for me. |

Something about the hub got redesigned, but I don't remember why. Superdutys have the same issue. |
