Just replaced my rear hatch struts.
$67 and change from local FORD dealer.
I have a 4x4 limited W/ the oilburner.
There are two strut part numbers, one for 4x4 and one for 2wd .
If you have to replace your rear hatch struts ORDER the 2wd regardless.
My hatch easily opens 2-4 inches higher! This is a good thing for me, now i do not hit my head on it!

Thanks for that info! That's why I love this site. I am 6'4" and constantly hitting my head on the rear hatch. I will replace them with the struts for the 2wd. Hope this helps.
Thanks again.

Odd...last time we discussed this my 05 2WD had the same part number stamped on them as the 4WDs.
Do we bring this up again? (which is fine by me. )What is the 4WD part number and how long is it extended?
Maybe we should start making stickies or an expanded FAQ...

If you have a 2WD model, then you "should" already have the longer struts. Ford put shorter struts on the 4WD because the suspension provided more lift ... was done so the soccer-moms wouldn't have to use a stepladder to reach the lift-gate. It's the folks with the 4WD models looking to obtain the struts made for the 2WD. |

I realize all of that, it is just last time I discussed this with someone here or over at FTE, it was determined that my 05 2WD had the same exact part number on it as the 4x4 models.

I just replaced my rear hatch struts and I don't hit my head. I took the advice of ordering struts for a 2WD. No more headaches!
