Doing some updates on my '02 X:
I got some 2005 headlights, any suggestions on installation? Also I remember someone recommending a specific bulb for the headlights, does anyone know what it is?
my bug shiels is pretty tattered, (its a ford oem) and want to replace it, should I replace it with the ford or the lund? which one looks better (and works better)?
Also someone with an RV came up beside me yesterday on the drivers side and clipped my mirrors (dumbo ) perfect opportunity to upgrade to 05 tow mirrors with heat and signal , was that at powerstroke .com? I think someone said it was $450, any one have it cheaper?
Thanks. |

Will those lights work with the old front end?
I cannot remember the headlight number because I personally haven't felt the need to upgrade. I can find it if nobody else does.
I did't think any bug shield actually directs the bugs off the windshield does it? Lund seems very popular. The lower profile the better, IMHO.
I would also check ebay for those mirrors.

In my experience with bug shields the best that I've used in the past was Deflecta-Shield "De-Bug Shield" as it was flat and worked well keeping bugs/debris off the windshield at freeway speeds but unsure if one is manufactured for th Excursion/SuperDuty line.
For the 03.5 mirrors go to www.PowerStrokeShop.com as they should have the pair for $550(shipped) they are NEW FORD OEM and not aftermarket knockoff junk.
I've seen some OEM Used/take-off's on Ebay in the past but you just need to keep an eye out for they'll post up every now and then.

I did the light upgrade with my 01 X
did some research and used Hella # 9007 replacement lamps (better and brighter than the Silverstars) but in order to get enough juice to these higher output lamps I had to add an upgraded wiring harness. without this harness you won't see much improvement.
The wiring harness was a 15 minute install, it wires directly to the batteries and has relays, with different lamp sockets that plug into the back of the light assembly just like factory version.
It is much brighter, but the higher output lamps do tend to burn out a little sooner than the factory. I've had to replace one lamp since I did this about 20,000 miles ago
These Hella lamps should run about $12each and the harness is under $50 as I recall....bought everything online. |

I would also suggest you to use ford oem. mine is egr superguard bug shiled oem mounting system, you'll just have to choose for the style that will complement the overall paint. |
