Hi guys, first post on the forum. I've been reading through your posts of wisdom and experience, and have come across some wise (and otherwise) suggestions.

Question is: Where's the lever on the HFCM (frame mounted fuel filter)???
I've searched previous posts on the forum but haven't found anything helpful for this model.

The supplemental diesel engine manual for my '05 EX states that there is a lever on the frame mounted filter / separator. This lever should be opened to drain water in the filter.
HOWEVER - I can't locate the lever. I can see the filter module plain as day, but I don't see any lever. What am I missing here (besides a lever)???

What is the correct method for draining water from the fuel?

its not a lever, it is the allen wrench hole. I had the same issue when I tried the first time.

Welcome aboard SISK! Great to have you with us on FordExcursions.com

Click on THIS LINK and scroll down to post #3.

Check your local Ford dealer for the new plug or goto PowerStrokeShop

The HFCM plug should take a 6mm Hex wrench but be careful when tightening it up it can be easy to strip which is why most owners have been upgrading to the larger steel part with a thumbwheel which eliminates the need for the allen wrench

The little stock one is on the right the newer revised on the left.

Thanks for the replies Docgas and CHP, I appreciate your input.

so if there isn't a a lever on the fuel separator, does that mean the usermanual is mis-printed?

Is there another location in the engine compartment where you can also drain water from the engine mounted fuel filter?

On the 7.3L PowerStroke Diesel's fuel filter has a drain lever on the top side of the enigine.

The 6.0L you only drain the HFCM so you can change the HFCM fuel filter and the top engine mounted fuel filter, sounds funky but thats the way International and Ford designed it
