All of a sudden I am hearing a stange "vibration noise" coming from under my hood area when I hit 2200-2300 rpm's. The sound goes away after I exceed 2300 rpms. I think it could be a heat sheild of some sort?!?!?!
I'm a real car/engine novice and would apprciate anyone elses tips, ideas or similar stories of the same noise.
Thanks. |

Okay...more questions...
Does it do it in ALL gears?
Does it do it in neutral?
Have you inspected all the heat shields & tranny dust covers shield?
When did it start or has it always done it?
How many miles?
Did you or someone else, do anything to your truck to maybe cause the sound you describe? i.e. Hit a big bump, jump it, change a part, rotate tires...??? etc. etc.

The noise is the heat shields at the y-pipe, my v-10 did it and my 5.4l in my superduty did it also. The welds that hold them on will break and then you get the noise. Re tack them to the pipe, I just had the dealer do mine under warranty. |

hey guys, I had the same vibration you are all talking about. Mine was almost always at 1,750rpm, only under load (so it wouldn't happen if I just reved it in the driveway or the shop.) The dealer placed a couple hose clamps in key areas and it's gone! No charge service, and it didn't need to be welded, although I would have preferred that. They said it is pretty common, and it's an easy fix if you find the 'regular suspect' spots and clamp them back into place.
Hope this helps.
