I purchased an 06 F250 bumper and grille to update the front end of my 03 excursion. I know this can be done but I was wondering before I drop the bumper if I will need new brackets? I am well aware tha the grille's lower mount will not work but I assumed (yeah I know) that the bumper will bolt up. Any thoughts from the crowd may save me from scrambling for brackets and R&R.

dhanby,
A buddy of mine just replaced his entire front end-lights,grill,bumper- with the '06 style on his '99 F-250. The only cutting he had to do was to the header panel to get the headlight assemblies to fit correctly. All the other parts fit and bolted up just fine. Looked like a totally different truck when he finished. You may want to take some measurements, but I think you'll be able to do the same with your Ex. Hope this helps. Good luck and post up some pics when your done.

Hey Dave
Caddys83 did exactly what you are planning except he did it on a 2000. You could do a search--I believe he put some detailed info up--or you could email him.

F.Y.I. I just updated my 2000 X front end. Instead of cutting the old header panel I bought a new 2005 header panel for $100. Very easy to install and everything fit perfect. Hope this helps. |

It's a pretty easy process if you have all the right parts. It's just a matter of taking of the old and putting on the new. I completely renewed the front of my 2000X right before I sold it and bought an 05 X Limited 6.0 4X4. (Go figure) At least I can say I know how to do the conversion.
Who ever says that you can use the old (00-03) bumper brackets they are wrong. You have to buy new brackets to fit the new bumber. It only makes sense. Also, the old fog lights don't fit either. You have to buy new ones. I learned all of this the hard way.
I definately advise anyone who is going to do the upgrade to buy a 2005 header panel and not cut up and rig the old header panel if you want to do the job right.

If it can be done a 2000 Excursion, it can be done on a '03 Excursion as well.
Look at my Pics a 2000 Excursion
Here is a little update on the front
Now the 05 update
You know I have to keep the billet grille tradition alive on the '05 too.
I don't have any step-by-step install pics. I couldn't find my digital camera at the time. But there is a site that gives much of the instructions on how to install it. http://www.kingkustomstemecula.com/wst_page14.php
Not everything that I encounter is in the instructions but you'll figure it out. Also, I think some of the part numbers may be outdated. Some of the 05 part numbers have gotten the '06 part numbers.
Good Luck.
