I've come across a new torque converter lockup over-ride device...for what seems like a cheap price.

not sure how easy this is to install but supposed to be fairly easy.

If I almost never tow....is this a good idea? Many times while cruising around at slightly under 40 MPH, I wish I could get the high gear to click in, and the torque converter too, as this would help with the MPG's....but it just won't do it unless I'm doing around 43 MPH with no load on level ground.

This thing is supposed to allow me to flip a switch and lock it in....?

your thoughts?..

And with a 2001 EX limited 4x4 PSD...what tranny do I have?

I have 177,000 miles and the tranny was rebuilt at some point prior to me buying it at 104,000. And it shifts and drives fine. I have had it serviced about 50K miles ago.

Thanks for your input.

7.3L PSD's all use the 4R100 4 speed automatic transmission. A heavier duty version is used on the Diesel than with the gas motors.

Thi sis something you can do yourself with some simple wire splicing and a switch.

Do a search over at thedieselstop.com. It is a fairly common mod ...or was...

Some of the tuners that can control the tranny can lock up the torque convertor based on parameters you define... at least I know the SCT XCal2 can do it...

REALLY gives a push in the back when u have the TC locked and give it the juice !!!!
also helps the 1/4 mile times

I do run a SCMT at the highest setting and have kept it there for the last year...it does change the shift points to a more normal working setting, where as the Edge I started with did not change the shift points and I was worried about trashing the tranny. The Edge did give me a very high HP bump, but the tranny acted strangely...

I bought this over-ride MOD but have not installed it yet. I'm wanting to be able to lock in the torque converter at something less than the usual 43 MPH with the factory settings as they are now. I find myself driving down a flat road at 35 MPH and wanting to speed up to 43 or so to get the OD to shift in.

Looks like an easy install, just need to stop long enough to do it. And would be nice to not be in 104 degrees, drowning in sweat while I do this MOD....but it is TX and August.

Adios!!

I just slpiced into the trans harness purple wire w/yellow stripe. This need a ground to lock the converter. Mine also runs through a micro switch on the brake peddle so you don't kill the engine at a stop. The other advantage of the switch is you can drive like a stick. Let off the brake all but a hair and at 15mph lift your foot and throttle on. Running in a rural setting between 1200 and 1500 rpms, I have recorded a 1.7mpg improvment.
