Hey there X owner fellows. My long time fear is becoming reality... I got 2001 PSD Limited (built on 3./01) bad month for tranns from what I heard. My truck only got 63K miles. I got 23foot travel trailer that I towed only 5 times. I did my 30K and 60k Transmission service. Last weekend I was towing it to the lake in the mountains (about 15 miles up the steep road going about 20-30 MPH with O/D off) Next day I was going back to the HWY and drove on HWY(with no hills) about 100 miles when I noted my O/D off light flashing. The transm. did not have any symptoms and OD worked. Next day I drove another 140 miles with no problems. However I was worried about the light. I pulled the dip stick and check the fluid (which was replaced 1000 miles ago) and the fluid smelled burned. Trans. only had one time when it would not shift from 2nd gear to 3rd whithout letting off the gas pedal. Next day drove 200 miles with trailer with no problems. So, what do you think? Do I need to look for another tranny? Is there a small fix? Tomorrow I will pull the filter out and change the fluid. Another ?. Can you tow with OD on if you trans does not shift. My trailer only weights 5600 LB. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all. Yev. |

Sounds like what I had. I wouldn't bother with dumping the pan. Tranny is toast. You probably have the 2001 diode in it which is what sounds broke. Give Brian's Truck Shop a call and he'll fix you up with a bulletproof trans like he did mine.
