I'm not sure how many read the other Ford boards, But I posted this on another board and I wanted to post it here because I visit this site more often and am more familiar with the people here and I could not find the cooling line method here under articles. Maybe I'm missing something:
I did the oil cooler line method to change my 18qts. of tranny oil on my Excursion. What I could not find was any reference to the transfer case. Some may have a problem with the method I used, But I thought I would put it out there to see if anyone else could use this method. Maybe even learn why I shouldn't do this.
When I was finished with the tranny as per the instructions I drained the transfer case and then routed the clear hose from the trans. cooling line into the transfer case started the engine and filled it easily. When I was done I topped off the the tranny.
I was surprised this was not mentioned in the service article. I could have missed a previous conversation about this. I did forget to change the transfer case oil at 30K. The oil coming out today had 65K. I hope there was no damage done. Time will tell.
