Hi All,
I've been on a crusade to find out all the information I can on the mysterious FORD factory X receiver hitch ratings. I've been thru more bulletin board threads on the subject than I can keep track of and somewhere along the line I read people interpreting that the "V-5" designation in the square at the lower right hand corner of the receiver hitch rating decal ment that it was a Class V receiver. Well, that's not right. It's actually a reference to a performance and testing specification no. V-5 as established by the Trailer Hitch Manufacturers Association which all the X hitches were manufacturered to by the Ford vendor (in this case Reese) regardless of the what the limits on the receiver decal say. My question to anyone here is: Does anyone know of this specification or how to get in touch with the Trailer Hitch Manufacturers Association? I've Googled them and nothing shows up. Anyone have any info?

As a follow up to my prior post regarding the V-5 designation on your hitch receiver. If anyone is interested in the minimum test and performance standards that your hitch receiver must meet in order to carry the V-5 designation go to this webpage: www.vesc.org look for the link to regulations then select VESC-5 (V-5). It is a 28 page .pdf file by the Vehicle Equipment Safety Commission that describes the performance and test standards that your hitch receiver must meet.
