I need some help finding some new tires for my truck.
I tow a 8000 lbs Travel trailer. I am thinking of changeing to a load range E instead of the D's
The only tire I can find so far are the Micheline LTX M/S in a ten ply.
I need some feed back before I sink some major dollars.
Is a load range too much?
Also what other tires are available in a Load range E that fits?
Thasnks

Scott, I've heard of several people getting the Michelins and loving them. Cooper also makes a 265 LR E tire that has a similar "highway" tread. See Discoverer HT at http://www.coopertires.com/tire_cooper/ltsuv.asp?id=22 They will no doubt be easier on your wallet than the Michelins. I'm sure there are several other tires that are also good.
From what I've read, the Load Range of a tire (D, E, etc) is not as important as its weight rating - i.e. what it will actually carry. If you look at the above Cooper tire site ( http://www.coopertires.com/tire_cooper/ltsuv.asp?id=21 ) you will notice that the Discoverer AT 265 is a LR "E" tire and has a weight rating of 3415 lbs. The Disc. AT 285 is a LR "D" and can carry 3305 lbs. That is pretty close and either tire is well above what the X is rated for per axel. The difference is in the maximum pressure you can put in each tire. 80# for the 265 vs. 65# for the 285. Some have said they prefer the slightly stiffer sidewall of the 265 LR E with higher pressure for towing or hauling heavy.
Sorry about the novel. Good luck.

Doh, you'll have to copy and paste the links. I'm not too handy with this 'puter stuff yet.
