If any of you with Radius Rods installed are experiencing a 'clunk' (sounds like a sloppy drive shaft) when accelerating from stop, check the C-clamps holding your rod bracket to the leaf spring.
I had already dropped the drive shaft, greased yoke splines, replaced both u-joints, to no avail. I thought I might have a bad pinion until I read a post suggesting to look at the spring-to-axle bolt. When I did that I noticed the Radius Rod c-clamps were badly rusted and loose. They had been sliding back and forth on the leaf spring, banging against the leaf-end. That's what was causing the clunk. When I attempted to tighten them they were so badly rusted on that I twisted off the clamp. When I went to purchase new ones, the hardware store had nothing but flimsy, chinese junk.
So I drove over to Northern Tool, bought some 1/4 inch flat stock, & a bunch of 1/2" grade 8 hardware. I cut the stock about 2" wide and little over 4" long, then drilled 2 holes in each piece corresponding to the c-clamp hole spacing. I used a 1/2 inch drill to open up the bolt holes in the rod bracked, then bolted everything together. Torqued 'em to 60 ft lb.
Nothing moves, no more clunk. Now I know why GenIV Radius Rods are welded to the spring bracket!
