Question for any, since I still have to get a shop manual and haven't gotten to it. The only code being thrown up on the truck is an 'output speed sensor' error, and just before the truck is ready to die the light on the gear selector begins to flash. One is where is the sensor, and is it easy enough to change out, and I'm told it's a foctory Ford part only, and the flashing light means? Any info is appreciated.

What exactly are the symptoms??

That flashing OD off light usually signals of a bad Vehicle Speed Sensor located on top of the rear diff. It is an easy change. A 10mm bolt (if memory serves) and a $40 +/- part.

Most of the time the truck stalls while at an idle while in gear, no real warning, just watch the tach fall out. Rarely will it happen on the move, if so, it's during the initial movement from a stop. For what I have driven it, her family vehicle, I've noticed that the damper the morning the more prone you are to having it happen. If I'm in line to leave work I can have it stall out 3-4 times before I hit the gate. Some times it does feel like it's bauking, probably more often from imagining it, and every once in a while a surge of power pops up on take off. The boys at autozone and a few other stores all told her the same thing, along with it being a Ford item only.

If that's as easy as it get, no problem. Who's to complain being that this is the only issue with the truck other than the back-up sensors and harness going bad. Even with that you can't complain with all the salt they lay here.

Thanks....

The stalling sounds like a different issue but I guess they could be related...

Stalling like you describe is usually a plugged up or bad Idle Air Control Valve. This is a common problem on hte V10/V8. (One of the few actually. ) You can remove it or just replace it. I tis a fairly easy but you do have to lay across the engine practically to get at it. It is also relatively cheap.

I would replace the VSS first and if symptoms persist, then move on the IAC.

Both parts can be had cheaper by visiting http://www.discountfordpartsaty2kford.com/

I've used them before and the service is fantastic. You may need to call them to get the proper parts, though. I couldn't find the IAC on the site but, admittedly, didn't spend a lot of time searching.

You were right, it was multiple issues that came to sight at the same time.

I changed out the vss, which I think may have been an issue since the purchase. I always thought that 1st was a little spongy, after the new sensor she's tight. One issue done and out.

The stalling came about because of last summer, just before a trip I tuned her up, then got gas at a FS station, which was out of the norm. She spit and sputtered on the way there, I blamed the gas, filling back up with mobil, it did run better. Once at the destination I checked the plugs resistances, and found a two higher than the others, so I swapped them out with the extras I had. No change came about, so I still blamed the gas for the problems. The next trip I did it again, got gas at FS, and she stumbled again. My wife stopped in at Auto Zone, they noted a misfire in cylinder #1, so I checked all that, plugs, coil, anything I could, so I swapped out that plug for a different brand. She ran better, so I changed them all out with Bosch platniums..... the truck won't run with Autolite platniums, imagine that. Guess the Autolites were my problem since I called in for platnium plugs and didn't specify Bosch.

With that all straightened out the mileage is back up to 15+, and if I want to I can hit the speed limiter again, with out lunging

Thanks for the help and all......................
