I've recently upgraded my lights to Sylvania Silverstars and installed the dual suvlight harness. Works great except for the high beams staying on. I went on the suvlights web site and found the fix but don't quite fully understand. They mention removing the fog lamp relay from the fuse panel under the hood. According to the Ex manual, mine is located under the driver's side dash. The relay is #43. Suvlights is referring to a pin #86 which you have to bend or cut. They also make mention of soldering a ground wire to this pin and connecting it to a chassis ground. I'm a little confused on what they are talking about here. How do you solder a ground wire to a pin that has been cut or removed? I'm opting for the option of keeping my fog lights on while my high beams are on.
If some of you could help clear this up I would be eternally grateful. BTW, this is a great forum and I enjoy visiting it often. Since purchasing my EX back in 04 I have made a few of the recommended upgrades and have been very pleased. Keep up the good work and thank you for your time and efforts on keeping up this great resource.
Sincerely,

Hi Rick...
I too had issues with suvlights and they were FAR less than helpful...
I considered it an $58 lesson and ordered elsewhere !

Hey JohnBoy,
Thanks for the reply. I paid $118 when all was said and done - ordered the double harness. Anyway, I'd hate to eat that. I'm going to contact them tomorrow. I found their customer service less than friendly during my first go around. I figured I would wait and see if anyone here would be able to help me out in the mean time before calling them back. Who did you finally order yours from?

Thanks JohnBoy. I spoke with suvlights today and I think I've got the fix. The double harness they sell is wired differently than what an Ex needs. You have to switch the ground wire (at the end of the receptacle with another wire in the middle), the old cut and splice routine. I'm going to do it tomorrow and hopefully it will solve the problem. Well... did the fix and it works. I'll try and get some pics soon. It's a pretty easy fix. The old cut and splice. What you need to do is when looking at the back of the orange and blue sockets, the white and black wires need to be switched. The black wire (ground) needs to be in the center and the white needs to go on the outside. I had a heck of a time getting those wires out of the sockets so I just cut and spliced. Make sure you do it on both the orange (2007) and blue (2004) sockets that came with the harness.
Now I need to figure out how to keep the fog lights on with the high beams. Possibly a bridge wire? If anyone has been able to do this please let us know.

Cool Beans - glad u got it fixed...
too bad they dont know that wen you order it for an excursion, that u intend to PUT it on an excursion
And that reminded me I had to do something similar on my first single set I got from them for the 03 !
but they had me take the connetor apart and switch the leads.... the splice and dice is probably better because u can seal it once done...
youd' be suprised how much water gets on those connectors

That reminds me. I need to tape up those connectors to prevent future water damage. I should probably get the relays mounted as well. Right now I just stuffed them into the open spaces between the batteries and front quarter panels. I was careful though to make sure they were facing up to allow for any water that did get in to not get into the relays themselves. Thanks JohnBoy for the reminder! |
