Trying to decide between leather and cloth seats. Being in FL, I don't really like the feel of leather on bare skin when wearing shorts, and in my experience leather tends to "wear" and get thin/brittle/tear easier than cloth. BUT - is there any difference in your opinion between the seat comfort on long rides (read: cushioning) between two identical vehicles, one with leather and one with cloth seats? |

The Excursions I've been in with leather the seating is definitely more firm versus the cloth in our X which is choice for us. If I could pull the leather seats from the Gran Marquis and put em in the Excursion I'd be set for the Marquis' leather is 1st class and extremely comfortable.

I've had 3 Ex's with Leather and since here in Tx I wear shorts a LOT,,,
the first two both had isues on the left bolster of the drivers seat.... too much body oil and to much wear BUT - everyone loves leather and that's what ya gets in the Ex;s...

The only downside to cloth seats are stains. So consider getting cloth for the summers, but also consider a set of good seat covers to attempt to keep 'em new-looking.
I believe cloth seats were standard on the XLT models. |

Mines an XLT with leather and I wouldn't have it any other way. I also have an XLT supercrew with cloth and hate to drive it. I can't slide in and out as I can in the X. In fact ,I will be trading in my screw for a second X soon. maybe this weekend.
Funny thing is that the Ins. company hascalled my truck 7 years old but, can't find a truck that is a year old with as nice of leather as what I have now. Other then the holes poked into it when it was broken into it's in perfect condition.

I like the leather. It feels way different then what I was in my parents cars and trucks growin up as a kid in vynal and cloth seats. (heck even my toy, a 1983 Coupe Deville Cadillac has cloth seats ) The 2000-04 cloth seats on the excursions are nice too. But when ford changed the cloth material on most of there vehicles and the 05 excursions. It sucks. I seen alot of stains in the middle of the seats between the leggs an butt. Some of us at work call them shxt stains LOL

I've got an 05 XLT with gray interior (Flint) Man, that fabric does SUCK when it comes tto cleaning and keeping clean., It grabs and shows every bit of dirt!!!
I have a Hoover shampooer that I use, and you spray the cleaning fluid on as it vacuums it up. It won't work well as the fabric just lets the fluid pass right through it into the foam before the vacuum can suck it back out.. The seat is moist for a long time. I have given up. After Dec 1st, when it get some extra $, I'm going to get some seat covers from coverking in leatherette. (vinyl) At least I'll be able to clean them. Hell, they look better, too.
I'll post picks if you wish. |

Personally, I love the leather. Take care of it and it will last a very long time. You cannot get the same lifespan with cloth as you can with leather. |

My front seats are getting the typical wrinkles and cracks. I'm thinking of some kind of goo I wipe onto the seats. I believe that even the Ford manual says there is nothing to do to the leather because of the factory clear coat. |
