I just purchased a '05 Escursion XLT. I really miss the trip computer from my previous truch and I'm wondering if I can purchase a trip computer and install it. Does anybody know if that's possible?

Thanks
Erik

You need a ambient temperature sensor, harness for the sensor, the trip computer, and the trip computer bezel,. You can find all the parts except the harness and sensor at 1stfordparts.com

I have been looking into this, and it looks like the ambient temperature sensor in the grill may come off the fog light harness. This harness is only available from ford. If they ask you if your truck is a limited and/ or if you have EATC (Electronic automatic temperature control) tell the buy at part YES. Otherwise they will say they can not sell it to you because it is a restricted part. I just wnt through this with a parts department. They would not sell me the harness because mine was not a Limited or have a EATC. I'm now looking in junkyards.

Go figure. Wish someone would sell me that OEM fog light harness new.

I may have found a workaround for the fog lights, anyway.

Is there only one ford dealer in your area? If so, you now know what to say at another dealer.

There's more dealers, but I figure it will be easier at a junkyard. The junkyards are closer. I think I have identified the pigtail, anyway. With the pigtail, I could just wire it to the harness that came with the kit.

About the trip computer, if you add the EATC, it also needs the sun sensor from the automatic headlights. The sun sensor has two sensors in it, one for the headlights, and one for the EATC.

The trip computer itself should be a pretty much simple install. Just still have to figure out that harness and sensor thing.

Thanks for theinformation I contacted 1stfordparts.com like you suggested and they indicated they could get all the parts but it'sabout $600 for everything.

I noticed while onthe website that they have an auto dimming rear view mirror with compass and outside ambient temp display for $250.00. I amthinking about getting that instead.

Thanks again

After having to get the dealer to upload a code to the GEM in order to recognize the added foglight circuit on my wife's '05 Mustang (they had to call FOMOCO to get the code), you might find yourself in the same boat if you try to add the overhead display. I installed all the necessary parts, but the GEM would not recognize the circuit until after it was reprogrammed.

I have found that the only thing the overhead lie-o-meter is good for is to remind me not to press so hard with my right foot. A nice vacuum gauge will do the same thing.
