This is my 2nd Excursion. I had a 2001 a couple years ago which I traded in for a Honda.. YUCK! I traded the Honda in for another Excursion It's a 2002 Limited 7.3L The problem I am having is that the rear a/c and heat doesn't blow. The front works fine. I'm thinking it may be a simple fuse or relay in the dash but I don't have an owner's manual to know where to start and I hate to start pulling fuses and relays w/o knowing what I am pulling out. Besides that fact there are about 50 in the fuse panel. Can someone look in their owner's manual and let me know what I should check? Or do you have any other ideas? I'd like to avoid a huge dealer repair bill if it's a simple fuse.
Another problem.. is the rear back up sensors. They work sometimes, and sometimes they beep all the time when there isn't anything to beep at and sometimes they don't work at all. Any ideas? |

You can try cleaning the sensor face. Which I'm sure you've already done.
Check the wiring to each of them behind the bumper. Make sure it isn't frayed causing a short.
try a search here. Probelms with those sensors come up every now and then. Maybe an old thread will help put you on the right path.
Question about your rear HVAC. Does it work with the rear controls? Can you put the front switch to "REAR" and control the fan using the controls out back.
YES. That is the same question asked two different ways. but I went though all the trouble to type both to see which I liked better that I now don't want to delete one of them...well...because I went through all the trouble of typing THIS!

If you prefer an original hardcopy of your owner's manual, plus factory service manuals and wiring diagrams, go to www.helminc.com ... That's where Ford gets 'em! Also, manuals for models a few years old generally get discounted well as time goes on.
And WELCOME to the X-Files! |

OK, thanks for all the tips! You may want to ban me from the forum though... for stupidity! I realized that I didn't have the rear a/c selector overhead on "REAR." That's a good reason for it not working huh? It's all good now that the selector is on "REAR!"
As for the sensors... yeah tried cleaning them. I will look behind the bumper to see if there is any fryaing or loose wires and I will do a search on the forum to see if anyone else has had the same problem.

Another thought on the back-up sensors ...
Look inside the rear bumper, disconnect one sensor & have someone walk behind to see how they function while you've got the gear selector in reverse AND your foot on the brake. If the same symptoms occur, reconnect the last one, disconnect another, test again. Repeat for all four sensors. If it's only one sensor giving you trouble, this could be a way to determine which one is faulty.
If that doesn't solve anything, disconnect ALL of them to see if you still get a "beep" when in reverse. If so, then I'd suspect the GEM. |
