It may not be newsworthy across the country, but around here where we build aircarft carriers and submarines, it is significant. During Rummy's eulogy at Gerald R. Ford's funeral, he let the news slip that the next aircraft carrier ( CVN 78 ) will be named after President Ford ... quite an honor. The real significance is that the next aircraft carrier is a new design, and not another "Nimitz Class" carrier. The Nimitz Class carriers got that designation because the Nimitz ( CVN 68 ) was the first ship in that class of ships ... soooooo ... the whole next generation of aircraft carriers will be the "FORD CLASS"!!!

The slogans have already started around the company ...

-- CVN 78, USS Ford, giving a whole new meaning to "BUILT FORD TOUGH"

-- "They can have it in any color they want, providing it's gray."

-- The new Ford F150Billion

-- CVN 78 GT

-- Will the next ship ( CVN 79 ) be offered with an Eddie Bauer option?

-- What about offering the U.S.Navy a Harley-Davidson special edition model ... with extra chrome?

-- Yeah, why not a Ford? We already sold 'em a Lincoln ( CVN 72 ).

-- USS Ford ... home of the Thunderbirds!

-- "Welcome aboard the Ford ... no bow ties allowed!"

-- You can see the USA in a Chevrolet, but you can cruise the world aboard a Ford.

Here's a link to the new design, initially titled CVN 21 (21st century carrier) ...

Once a construction contract is awarded, the designation will be CVN 78.

Also, here's a link to one of our webpages on aircraft carriers ...

I suggest you contact them to see if they don't need some Radius Rods for that enormous bow thruster!! The Ford class will kick a$$ on the seas as well as the land!!

Contact them? I've been employed there since 1978.
