GOT8KIDS,
Yeah, that's more like ours. I've siliconed the seals and haven't concluded that it really makes any real difference. It may be worse when they're hot, but that too doesn't really seem to be the key...
We've found that if we go back and forth on the switches (rocking them to the open and then the closed position) when they're acting up, that oftentimes will get the windows to suddenly come open.
I'm really thinking there's something up with some sort of inconsistent relay, probably heat induced, but I was hoping someone with some magic bullet might chime in. Hopefully someone still will.

My 03 Ex starting acting up like that and I could play with it to get it to respond...
then I had a eureka --- what if it failed while OPEN ?
and the spring storms wee so kind to wash the back part of my Ex
mine ended up being the opening levers themselves had loosened up and were binding with enough pressure that the motors must have fail safed and stopped.....
re aligned and tightened the levers, and cleaned both the glass and the seals....
never had another problem...

I've had to tighten the actulators themshelves a few times. I just figured that was because of my stereo.
Mine don't seem to stick when it's hot but only happens during the winter when I haven't used them in awhile

That is some good information and gives me a place to start ...once it warms up out. The next 10 days will be a bit to cold to want to mess with this. I see I need to change my handle too. Since I bought the X I have another addition to the family. Now it should read GOT9KIDS. Someone on the site put me on to Little Passenger seats out of Calif. I bolted in their rear seat and now I can put the younger children in the back. They love riding back there and looking out the back window. It is kind of like the old station wagons some of us grew up with.

I agree with JohnBoy. When mine are acting up (usually pass. side) all I need to do is push on the outside of the window at the actuator end. This moves the mechanism enough that they now open with the switch. I really think that it's either loose or misaligned levers, but I have never found any 'adjustment' instructions.

Well, silicone seems to have worked for me. So, Phillip, you need to buy a brand new motor for the left side?

No, I don't need to buy a motor or anything, they both work - just inconsistently. It seems like Summer is the worst and lubricating them a bit seems to have helped...some. I've never investigated taking the actuators apart, adjusting them, etc., as it looks to be a pretty simple assembly and I wouldn't have thought they needed anything as little as they're used. However, when my wife gets it back from her trip to Florida next week I'm going to get in there and take a hard look at both of them. I do find it kind of interesting that so many people have had the same issue and have tried so many different things, none of them radical, to get things to work... Maybe by focusing the discussion on the topic we'll get someone that chimes in with "Yep, there's a Ford Technical Service Bulletin (number blank) that deals specifically with this issue and here's what to do..." or something like that.
Thanks,
Phil |

Wierd. Mine works better in the summer. It clicks so you know it is getting power. When it doesn't work, if you drive the vehicle for a few hours and have the heat in the back directed at the windows, it might work. I had no problems till it got cold. Even when the temps are above freezing it has a problems so I know it is not the ice on the gasket and glass.

Congratulations! But nine? You must really love your wife. Groucho Marx really loved cigars, but he took 'em out of his mouth once in awhile. You better start thinking about a 15-passenger van ... or a Greyhound bus ... 'cause I think y'all have outgrown the X. (That's a difficult thought to imagine.)
Back to the windows. Mine seem to stick more in the summer. At least they did with my '01 ... have yet to find out with the '05. I have noticed the rubber gasket is shaped differently between the two model years, too. |
