Well, the X is into Ford at the moment, so I will see what they tell me about the electrical issue. Now, I have one major a@@ FORD bitch complaint, I bought my X used. It is an 2002 with 87k miles on it right now. I take it in there today to have them look at the electrical issue and to take a look at some oil drops that I noticed on my garage floor. The manager from service just called me and tells me my 100k warranty has expired. He tells me the the expired on 2/19/07. He told me that Ford doesn't give any leeway on second owners. I tell ya, what a bunch of bull sh@t..... I was as nice as I could be to the service manager, but asked for some assistance from him. He told me that Ford from his past experience wouldn't appove any warranty work on my vehicle. And I think it is the rear main seal that is leaking oil, fudgeeeeeee.......................... You are telling me the wouldn't honor that I brought it in within the same month the 100k warranty expired on? I tell ya, no love from Ford...

Bad O-rings on the turbo pedestal also look like a rear main because the oil leaks down the back of the motor. The O-ring replacement is something you should be able to do yourself for very little $$. Mine are leaking a little and I am planning on changing them as soon as it gets warm out. I notice a few drops coming off the inspection cover on the tranny. I am sure you can find a set of instructions on this site. Let me know what you find out if there is no instructions I will make some when I do mine.
Good Luck!!

For the oil drips coming down between the transmission and engine would be as mention the turbo ped O-rings,High pressure oil rail end plugs,High pressure Oil pump O-rings or even the ICP sensor O-ring. Worst case scenario is the rear main seal.

I tell ya, you guys are dead nuts when it comes to symptoms I described.
- Keypad buttons started to corrode at the contacts on the side on the inside of the door. 3/4 button no longer worked, they could read the inputs from the keypad on their software at the dealer. The tech guy working on my car was a nice guy, he told me that he has a Ford himself and these keypads start to corrode and then short out all the time. FMC 6W1Z 14A626 AAA Kepad $40.18 and $198 for labor tech time to trouble shoot and replace. My advice to anyone, if you think it is the keypad, replace it yourself because $40.18 is far cheaper then an hour of the tech guy at Ford. Just my 1/2 cent on that one...I might also put some clear silicone around the keypad to try and prevent water from getting in there, that black seal behind the keypad doesn't look like the greatest seal.
After the keypad was replaced the electrical gremlin still existed.
- Vehicle Security Module needs to be replaced. I just got the phone call from Ford and I will follow up with part numbers once I pick the X up. I was quoted $487 for the part and the labor to install it. That is right about what Oil-Pig was quoted. "The dealer quoted me $330 for the GEM/VSM module plus 1-2 hours to install and reprogram." If the dealer didn't have to transfer programs, I would have replaced the module myself. Good marketing on Ford's behalf....
I believe Oil-Pig is right again, the oil leak is coming from the O-rings on the turbo pedestal. I did see the O-rings are cheap, however I have never tackled changing them before, if anyone has a picture of their location, well please share it.

i am glad your getting somewhere. My dealer says $229.87 for the GEM/VSM/with ESOF (3C3Z-143205-AA) plus an hour of shop time to program. I just talked to them again today cause my buddy found me a GEM but it was for an Excursion without ESOF So its a no go for my rig.
I will have pics of the o-ring change topost as soon as it warms up. Mine are getting changed soon and I will snap some good pics.

Yeah, I am getting some where, and that is emptying my wallet... On Friday when I spoke to the tech, I said to him I heard that the VSM is common to fail on the Excursion. He was like, no it should be something else wrong then the VSM. Now, I wish I would have took the gamble and told them to replace it right away, instead of paying for extra time for the tech to trouble shoot that it was bad....
$229.87, that is a good price, do you get a discount or something? Either they are charging me two hours plus of labor time, or they are charing me more for the VSM part. Shouldn't it be a fix rate according to the book on the VSM replacement? Or depending on if you get a guy who knows what they are doing it might take one hour versus two?

Could be a higher labor rate down there but I would think that Ford would charge the same price at any of thier dealerships? The parts guy told me they replace quite a few GEM units.

Round 2 results...
From invoice:
Performed key FOB and keyless entry diagnosis CSM or vehicle security module has internal ECU failure. Replaced programmable VCM and transferred vehicle data. Rest, all ok now.
Lab-mechanical - $336.50
FMC-4C7Z-15604-AC Kit - alarm/keyless $154.92
The tech wasn't there when I picked up the X, so I wasn't able to pick his brain any more. Odd that the part number they put on the invoice is different then the one given to oil-pig... I am assuming they didn't give me the VSM part number, that was just included in the $336.50 and the kit was an add-on that was needed that perhaps went bad....

I called my dealer again and this time I got a different guy that seemed a bit more knowledgable. The 3C3Z number I gave before is the 4X4 ESOF Shift module. The number you gave are updated numbers for the improved "Reciever assy" they gave me a price of $128.04. I am told it controls everything to do with the remote locking. It sounds like if the trucks came with different color paint they put different modules and electronic systems it it just to make it confusing.
So your truck is all better?
If I could get my remote locks working right for around 200-300 I would do it/ I am just afraid of dumping 500 bucks and having the same problems.
Good Luck!!
Chris
