Well, after looking for a long time, I found my X. Picked her up a couple of weeks ago, a very rare 2005 6.0L Diesel 4x4, Eddie Bauer Edition thats loaded, with low miles.
I am still a bit dissapointed with the ride, its the rear, not the front, and on a recent roadtrip (1600 miles) the rear passengers soon got used to the bumps, but I was still dissapointed by this.
On my quest to make things softer, I installed Rancho 9000X's and am soon to install the air controller for it. The rancho's helped a little bit.. but not as much as I would have hoped.
I just received a LandyLots Gen IV kit, and am wondering how significant this will improve the rear end bouncing/handling? I need to find the time to install this.
My other questions to which I cant seem to find answers to:
- What are the maximum size tires a stock x can accept?
- Is there a marking on the dif to tel you its lsd or not? or do I need to pry the cover off?
- How else can I improve the ride of my truck?
- Can someone explain the differences of U/V/B code springs, or point me to an article that does so?
Thanks guys for your help! I do appreciate it.

Welcome to the forum!!
Install a set of U front and F code rears. The F code are the 2005 and up replacements for the B code springs and have a little more rate to them. They are the latest way to go.
install a heavier rear swaybar than stock. The Helwig swaybar is great, or you can install one from a F350 by just getting the swaybar and bushings from the dealer, since your Eddie Bauer already has a rear one and has all the bracket hardware.
Landyot radius rods can reduce the 'squirrely' rear and wandering steering. Available from Landyot, a sponsor on this site.
U codes will raise the front of your PSD about 1.3 inches over stock and are rated at 4800lbs per pair. V codes raise the front 1.5 inches over stock and are rated at 5200lb per pair . The original springs on your truck are 4700lb/inch per pair with a rate of 380lbs per inch.
For enough info and reading to keep you busy for a month, the link below has links to several discussions about U and V codes.

The original rear springs are rated at 5250lbs/pair at a 410lb/inch rate. Very stiff.
As for the rear axle tag:
Ford Rear Axle Identification Tag
Item Description
1 Plant code
2 Axle ratio
3 Denotes Traction-Lok®
4 Ring gear diameter
5 Build year
6 Build month
7 Build day

Are there part numbers available for these? or will the dealer know what I am talking about?

Just make sure to tell the dealer you want the 30mm swaybar for the 2004 F 350. He should know his stuff.
Refresh this page. I added some info on axle identification in my post above.
also, on the door sticker you will find the axle code. This is what the codes mean on a Excursion:
Axle Type
31 — 3.73 non-limited slip, F-250/Excursion
C1 — 3.73 limited slip, F-250/Excursion
32 — 4.10 non-limited slip, F-250
C2 — 4.10 limited slip, F-250/Excursion
33 — 4.30 non-limited slip, F-250
C3 — 4.30 limited slip, F-250/Excursion |

As far as the spring part numbers, the posts in the links above have them or will link to other posts with the numbers. If you change your springs, you need to replace the U bolts with new ones.

I did a bit of reading, and since my truck is a diesel, should I be doing V codes instead of U? or will the weight difference be negligible?
Thanks for your help thus far! I am totally impressed by this forums (and primarly your own) knowledge.

That depends. If you are looking into adding a front hitch, or a HEAVY front bumper, or even if you are going to tow a lot with a weight distributing trailer with a heavy tongue weight (over 700lbs), then I reccomend the V codes, as they sag less under the extra weight.
If this is a daily driver and never tows, has no winch, and only sees passengers and the asphalt road, then the U's will work best as they will give a great ride.
The best rides so far are reported with the U and F codes.
All of this is opinion, you understand. I have V code fronts and Modified B code rears with air bags and Landyot radius rods, along with Bilstein shocks. But I tow a heavy (over 9500lb dry) travel traileron trips a couple of times a month.

I tow regularly, but nothing beyond a 5000lb car hauler, sea doo trailers and a utility trailer.
I do not plan on putting anything on the front.

Are the factory springs on my excursion not twin rate?
Do you know if these are the correct part numbers:
U Code Front Springs (2C3Z-5310-GA),
F Code Rear Springs (6C3Z-5560-F),
