I am about to invest in a set of guages and a performance chip or a dash top display / programmer from Hypertech or Edge and would like to know what operating temps I should be looking for.
Lots of owners mention "getting the truck up to operating temp".
My question is what are the optimum operating temps. for the 7.3 PSD?
What water temp should I be looking for?
How about oil temp.? The stock guages sure dont tell me much!

Thanks, Brian

To achieve best performance the optimum operating temps for the 7.3L Powerstroke is anywhere 200 degrees+.

You'll want to purchase/install a 203 degree thermostat for that purpose which we have had on our 7.3L since early 2003.

Oil temperature pretty much follows the coolant temperature relatively but oil temp doesn't matter much, just keep it changed
