Ok...on my last Glow Plug....took 5 Hrs so far, and cleaning it up as I go. You were very right that it takes a long time getting things out of the way and removing valve covers. It was over due though. Once I complete, I will let you know status! Next....fuel issue...wish me luck! |

Whew...done! Replaced all 8 Glow Plugs...almost 8 HRS! (Lots of interruptions).
Excursion started up, but again was VERY rough. I will go clear codes tomorrow early, and check for new codes. I will keep you informed! |

How did all the connectors on the injectors look? Pretty secure? If any trouble codes came up in the scan it would have shown a problem with the valve cover harnesses if those was the issue but not.
Could be straight up fuel related, keep us posted.

Gosh darn it! I could have checked those while I had the valve covers off! LOL
Oh well, I will have to pull them off again. At least they are now VERY clean!!
Can you tell mw where the IDM is located? Any pics? |

The IDM is located in the engine area right behind the drivers side inner fender well liner.
Here's a photo and description that may be of help.

On 1999-2003 7.3L trucks they are hidden in the drivers side wheel fender just inside of the F-250/Excursion decal. You need to remove the drivers side plastic fender wall to reach the IDM. 10mm bolts hold the bracket and a 10mm bolt holds down the connector.

Do you think it may have jogged loose during the ride to Colorado? Was in lots of snow and bumpy roads. I will try reseating it, and see if it helps. I checked the connectors on top of the valve covers and they are secure. If that does not work, I am takin her in! At least I won't have to pay the grand for the glow plugs, and I was very successful replacing those buggers! |

Possibly the IDM plug has lost contact on one of the leads or has had some water intrusion somehow.
On the valve cover harness plugs there's one under and one outside,it's the under that usually can lose contact due to the clip popping off.

Driver Side UVC Harness was the culprit! I cannot beleive it, but MY BABY is running like it was NEW!!
First, I want to let anyone who replaces glow plugs or does anything under the valve covers, install the UVC Harness Clips!!! They were only $15 for three, and they were worth a MILLION to me after I fixed the problem with one clip! I think Ford should have had a recall on that harness, but Ford has enough issues...so I will not even bother with a letter. If this helps anyone in the future, then its worth me sending the fix.
Second, Bill, you are a lifesaver! If you happen to be in the San Diego area anytime in the future, please send me an e-mail, because I would love to buy you dinner and drinks. Your quick replies kept me motivated to complete the job myself, and the self gratifaction of fixing my Excursion is the greatest feeling in the world. Thank you so much for all your help! |
