I had my truck broken into in January and they only stole my laptop computer. I never could figure out how they got in, so I figured I must have left the door unlocked.
Well, I was washing my car about two weeks ago and noticed that the lock cylinder on the drivers door was broken and pushed in. I never noticed because the truck is black and the door handle was not damaged, so it all just looked black.
Well, last night on the Houston news, there was a story about a increase in theft on F250 and F350 trucks. A survelence tape caught a guy breaking into an F250. It took less then 8 seconds for him to jimmy the lock and in less than 30 seconds he drove away. No keys involved. The caught the guy, but it made me realized that is it really easy to break in.
A guy at work told me that there is a plate you can buy that goes behind the door handle that will not allow the crook to jimmy the lock. I guess they just put a thin piece of metal in the key hole and push the lock up until it unlocks the door. The plate would stop the lock from being pushed up, I guess.
I need to get the lock fixed because after reading the forum the remote and keyless entry are not fool proof. I don't want to have to crawl through the barn doors, since that is the only other keyed door.
Does anyone know where I can get one of these plates?

Guys,
A product I found a couple of years ago is the "Jimmi Jammer" (http://www.jimmijammer.com/). Their site is pretty lame but since they only sell through stocking retailers they provide links to some Internet sales sites.
A pair for the front doors runs about $35. You will also need another pair to protect the back doors. One source is http://www.trucksecurity.com/TScom%20Purchase%20Ford.htm and you will want the part numbers (103002 front doors, 103010 rear doors (none available for rear hatch door)).
Regards,

My '05 was broken into at the end of last year like the last picture in the link. They punched a hole between the bezel and the door and popped it up that way. They stole my DVD system and did a clean job and didn't tear anything up. Thank goodness my golf clubs were not taken!
My Ford guy suggested putting rear handles in the front so there was no locking mechanism to access. The lock linkage is what hangs down and is easily accessible. With that out of the way, they can't pop it open. Only hair on that is if your remote poops out, you may have to slide in the back. Worth the risk to me. Since I had that done, they tried to get it again under the bezel and were unsuccessful. I think they'd have to destroy the area around the door handle to get in.
I just left the hole there for now since I'm tired of fixing it. I'm not sure if a Jimmijammer would keep them from punching the hole in the door. |

Trust me on this......
The metal plate will NOT work as well as intended. Ultimately, it may stop a thief from actually "entering" the vehicle, but more often than not, the thief will be doing much more damage in his attempt to get in. I have found that the BEST deterrent is a deterrent that works before the thief even touches the truck!
After my X was broken into (typical screwdriver jammed in the keyhole), my local dealer suggested replacing the broken driver door handle with a rear door handle. It has been GREAT!!!!!
Been 4 years since I installed them, and NOT ONE break-in! Meanwhile, all the Superduty's and Excursions in the neighborhood have had a round of break-ins.
It's well worth the $130 to get the rear handles installed in the front. Burglars immediately notice there is no keyhole to jam their screwdriver in!!!!!
