I purchased a 2000 Excursion used from another retired couple and it came to me with a fair share of issues. The last major issue was ALL door locks would not work but I resolved that by replacing the resistors on the motors. The one that has me stumped right now is the A/C control system... for some reason the air will only blow out the top air vents which makes it a pain in this warm GA weather. I know the controls work off a vacuum system but am not sure where to track down the problem. Are there any savvy ones out there that might be able to provide me with a suggestion or solution...?
Thanks,
Joe |

Hi Joe,you definitely have a vacuum leak which causes the heat/air system blend dor to send all air to the defroster vents.
There's place to check for vacuum leaks, one is the line/s that go to the front axle hubs(if you have 4x4) as they sometimes crack and leak or plain disconnect.
Another is the grey vacuum line that goes to the coolant shut off valve that interacts with your AC system when set to "Max" sometimes that line can pop off.
I'll run out to the truck and take a pic of it's location.

I've tried tracking all air lines from vacuum pump, but it appears all the lines are in ok shape. The vacuum pump seems to make a crazy clicking noise so I'm curious if that may be the issue. |

Could be the vacuum pump altogether but I don't know what the pesky critters go for at the parts store?
Here's a couple photos of the suspected leaky vacuum areas, the first is the coolant shutoff valve the second is the line going to the front right hub.

you know, I have the same problem with my X, I quickly checked before it got dark tonight and didn't see anything that was disconnected or cracked, I'll check again tomorrow. Is there any other reasons for this? It is starting to bug me, especially since summer is here in So Cal! |

There is also a vacuum line up under the passenger footwell that can break or become disconnected. For the life of me though I can't tell you where it is exactly.
