Saw a post asking the question but not necessarily the correct answer or fix to a high idle. My Ex idles at 900 rpm's. My mechanic seems to feel that is high and that it should be at 650-700 rpm's at idle, but couldn't find a leak anywhere. Anyone know the correct rpm's or what I can check to see if I can get my idle to drop down a bit? I thought I saw a note that the Idle Air Control Valve controls the idle speed, where is it located? Can it be cleaned or is it a throw away item to be replaced. I'd like to also check the hose connections to make sure it is not leaking. |

900 is too high on a hot engine. It should be around 600-750. Have you tried to reset the computer by pulling the battery? (wouldn't hurt)
The IAC is on the back of the intake manifold. It can be cleaned but when it goes bad you usually get a NO idle symptom and not a high idle symptom.

FWIW, I idle at 900 when cold.
750-800 idling in Park with the AC on.
600 in Drive.
