Thinking about putting a newer Ford GPS/NAV touch screen radio in my 02 X, is this possible and are there any issues with doing this? Has anyone tried? I like the idea of a full function oem Ford radio in my x, what do you guys think?

here is one on ebay:

Will it fit? That eBay item looks like a double-DIN, and I've heard the X is 1-1/2 DIN. Assuming the electrical connections can be made ... meaning, the unit gets all the feeds it requires ... why not? Let us know what you end up doing.

EDIT TO ADD: Whoa! I just double-checked, and the bidding is up to $710 !!!!! Though it wouldn't be integral to the in-dash unit, wouldn't getting a separate GPS unit be less expensive? And simpler to install?

Electrically, it should be a simple plug and play with a adaptor harness such as:

http://oem-auto-accessory.com/ford_oem_harness_t100_car_to_phase_2_radio_works_w_or_wo_audiophile.html

But as far as the fit, I don't know. It uses a different mounting system. If the unit is the right size, but if you can get the hardmounts off the side and install spring clips like the OEM radio in the Ex, and attach the bottom plastic slide glide, then it might work without any trouble.

Thanks guys for the input, going to do a little more research on fitment. If it is easy to just plug and play then I'm going for it; I'll have my Sirius, GPS, touch screen and THX sound all in one with steering wheel controls...gotta love that. If it is problem to fit and not compatible, then I'm going for a custom built install, that I put together myself...Put in a car computer with TV, computer, GPS etc....i'll let you know what I find out.

Ace--it looks big to me as well. I just replaced my 6 cd changer in my 01 so I have stared at it a lot lately. The existing 6 cd changer/stereo is a double din. Ford makes several different mounting systems which might be the biggest pain if it fits. The other is the wiring adapter.

A company called Visteon makes aftermarket Ford radios which are upgraded. I know they make one that is satellite capable. Here is a link..

Also look at this------look familiar????

This one will handle your navigation needs...

Good luck!

Hey David,

Thanks for the links, great info...but to be honest, I really don't like the look or functionality (small screen) of any of these. And you're right, it looks like the newer oem is bigger, I may be better off with just a custom job....anyone have experience with installing a carputer in their X?
