Found this info on manual switch to lock the torque converter.
Is this a good idea?
Please comment.
Manual switch to lock the torque converter
On the passenger side of the transmission is a connector with 12 pins in an oval body (#C104 , the lead from this connector is routed over the trans to the control module. Pin #4 has a purple wire with a yellow strips on it, this is the signal wire from the control module telling the torque converter to lock. Run a jumper from this wire to a switch in the cab, connect the other side of the switch to ground. When the switch is flipped, pin #4 will be grounded and the torque converter will lock up.

Is this mod for the 4R100 Trans or the 5R100 Trans?
I like the idea of it

Bill,
I was told that this is the mod for the 4R100.
I also like the idea, just not sure that doing this would not cause DAMAGE!
Glad you replied, as you are certianly one who would be able to tell if this is SAFE.
I assume (Ass-U-Me) that one would have to turn it on and off while driving. At every stop sign etc.
Regards,
James |

Depends on the transmissions operation condition and if it's had a any modifications performed such as the FTVB,Sonnax/tricumulator,synthetic fluids, high performance TC and so on.
I posted to my 7.3L brethren for their take on it as well

From the feedback I received it's okay to use long as you remember to de activate it when you have to slow down(let the gears shift down) otherwise engine damage will/may occur.
Here's the TC lockup Thread to read all up on it

Bill,
Thanks for the link, and as ALWAYS you're Knowledge.
Not sure that this is for me. 80% of my driving is city type during the week.
Afraid that I would forget to turn it off and stall the beast.
Will this increase MPG?

I just try and help the next guy whenever possible
If I'd were to do the switch mod I'd install a well lit switch thats a no miss. I'd probably engage the TC lock when on the freeway solo or when in tow but thats my opinion.

I think when you do it that way the OD light stays on or blinks or something. Here's a better way albeit a little more involved.
