With 85,000 miles, 3 sets of rotors and having the rotors turned more times than I can count, I have finally purchased slotted after market rotors. I was going to install them this weekend, but when I took the lug cap off, there was alot of grease leaking from one of the wheel bearing caps. I decided that must be done as well. I've got the wheel bearing parts now, but don't know what size socket the spindle nut requires or how many lbs. to torque the nut to when I reinstall. Can anyone help me?

Sorry, also remember that you need to lub the caliper pins every 15,000 miles if your using ford cal grease. My suggestion is to lube the pins with mobil syn grease. They sell it at autozone for like 7 bucks. Lube it with this and forget about it till you change your pads. I've got 141K on mine and have only put three set of rotors on the truck. Not to bad, using power slots in the front and stocks in the rear. Mine is an 02 7.3L 4x4 |

Lance, what size is the spindle nut? I need to lube bearings on my 2WD. I also think the something has come loose a bit in there. Not sure how but I can feel movement (clicking really) when I pull the top of the wheel with my hands and it ain't my ball joints.
I take it you don't do the 3 step torque sequence that Ford puts in the manual?

Thank you for all the info you've sent. I still haven't been able to fix my Ex because I can't find out what size socket I need to remove the spindle nut. Does anyone know? I really need to get this thing running again. |

You don't need a socket to remove it. Use an adjustable wrench.
That's what I did today. I snugged the bolt down to where I felt "binding" when I turned the rotor and backed it off a tad, then put the cover "nut thingy" & cotter pin back on. Works just fine.
