Hi all,

My factory remote start shuts off automatically after about 10 minutes. I have lived with this, but curious as to whether or not I can change the setting. I want to make it so it just stays on, but increasing the time would help. Thanks.

I have the same problem. If I go up to the truck and hit one of the buttons on the door it wakes up again and the remotes work again till the truck sits for a few minutes then it goes to sleep or something?? I would love to figure this out also. I have also posted this problem with limited responses. From what I can gather its my GEM or VSS. But on my truck (2002 Excursion limited 7.4) they are one in the same. The VSS is part of the GEM?? I don't know and I cannot get a straight answer from the stealership they just want me to drop her off and pay $80 plus an hour while they poke around and probably never find my problem.

I was once told (now I don't remember the details) that a wire in my door needs to be cut. I know my truck was hit in the drivers door, and it could of been replaced with a used door from a bone yard. I was told that if the door was from a truck that didn't have remote entry a wire needed to be disconnected to enable the remote locks.???? Again I don't know if this is a valid statement. But it seems that the remote entry system goes into a "sleep" mode. I would love to have this work so I can move on to my next project-----Installing my remote starter. It doesn't pay to try to install untill I fix the problem.

I'd rather be in the boat with a drink on the rocks then in the drink with the boat on the rocks.... But either way theres gonna be a good story!!!

The VSS or Vehicle Speed Sensor is located on top of the rear diff. I can see how the remote start controller would use that input as you cannot drive away without the key in the ignition when the remote-start has been activated.

As to increasing the time limit, I know my remote start would allow for longer run times but I cannot remember how I adjusted it. It is a function of the remote start system and nothing to do with the actual truck or its stock controls.

I think the "factory" remote start is an dealer add-on anyway. I don't believe it came from the factory with it, did it??

Mine is set to 15 min... the max.

I'm not sure which model you have, but if you have one of the PowerCode (Code Alarm - Frod Branded) ones, this link will take you to all the install / programming pages of the manuals:
