New powerstoke diesel owner learing all. While crawling around under the beast changing fluids i noticed a fuel filter on the driver side frame rail is this a tank filter?? Napa only shows filter on top of engine. Does anyone else have this filter on frame rail a mechanic friend with 2002 7.3 pickup said he has never looked due to the one on top of engine. Thanks for any help on this subject |

The 7.3L engine (99-2003) has one fuel filter located on the top forward section of the engine. Mounted on the inside of the framerail under the driver is the fuel pump.

A 2005 X (diesel only) came with an external transmission filter... maybe someone retro-fitted one on yours...
Follow the lines and see where they lead... this is what I'd do.
Let us know what you find.
