Hello all. Story: I bought a used 1705 tuner on eBay, flew from NH to OH to buy a used 7.3 PSD Excursion, reprogrammed with High Perf program, drove home - 19 mpg over 950 miles, got between 15 mpg and 17 mpg around home (mostly 50 mph and gravel roads) for 2 months, reprogrammed to Towsafe Economy program - got 12 mpg to 14 mpg , returned to stock program - got 16 mpg.

I finally figured out that the 1705 has one of at least two or more VERSIONS of software. The tuner I had picked up "cheap" was version 2.03 (says so when you plug it in under the dashboard). I have recently purchased a new tuner from one of the Superchips online retailers for a higher price, and totally expect the version to be of more recent vintage. I haven't seen this stated anywhere online, but finally deduced it. I'll let you know what version the new one is. If you don't get a tuner with the right version, you may/may not see your fuel economy increase. The power seemed to increase for me, but my fuel bill went up!!!

I just rec'd and installed new tuner software. Version of software is 2.51. 01/05/08

Sounds good.

How are you doing the calculations? By the computer or by humber of miles driven divided by total gallons used?

I drove my 2002, 7.3L, 4x4 lifted Ex from Los Angeles to Santa Fe, averaged 79 miles per hour and got 16.1 MPG. Odometer confirmed by GPS unit. (about 875 miles).

I remembered during last night while I was wondering if I should set my alarm for midnight so I could throw more wood in the fire (-12 F this morning) that I had not noted HOW I had figured mileage. I used paper and pencil. One other interesting thing that happened while using the used Superchips tuner: the overhead console read that I was getting fantastic mileage - almost double what I was actually getting. The time I got about 14 mpg, the console said I was getting 26 mpg.

Fuel economy with stock program last week: 15.5 mpg. Fuel economy yesterday at fill-up with new Superchips tuner (software version 2.51): 17.5 mpg. The Liometer on the upper console read "28.8 mpg).

I'll be getting about 20 once we shift back to summer mix fuel....
