Within a month of buying my 2000 7.3 PSD Excursion (103k), the engine light was on. My Superchips tuner read a P0677 code: circuit error for glow plug #7, and a P0603 Internal KAM computer error. After changing the #7 glow plug and finding it to have what looked like an internal crack, I thought I had it beat. No. Light came back on. I checked for continuity with a multimeter - checked at the "relay" by the fuel filter first, then at the connection at the valved cover - circuit was open somewhere inside the valve cover. Removed the cover again the next time I had a free hour: found the wiring harness connector for the injectors and glow plugs for that side of the engine was coming apart just inside the valve cover. Service bulletin said to look for backed out pins, but all was well in that department. Every electrical connector under the hood either snaps together or clips in place. But not the one I found under the valve cover - it just pushes together - it was coming apart at the back end first - the first pin to disconnect was for glow plug #7. Why didn't Ford put a clip or retainer on this connection? Anyway, if you come up with these two codes, this may be your problem....
