I live in Costa Rica, and the mechanics down here (including the Ford Dealer here) are pretty suspect as far as diagnostics are concerned.

I have a 2001 Excursion 7.3 4WD. The transfer case has stopped shifting into 4WD and I've verified that the actuator motor on the transfer case does work when I activate it directly.

The Ford dealer here has suggested that the GEM is faulty, but I'd like verification from somebody with some experience that the GEM could actually cause this behavior.

Thanks in advance!

The switch itself has been known to go bad. I'd check that out first.
