i have a 2000 ltd 4wd EX with 109k on it. recently i've been hearing a high pitched noise kinda like a squeeling. sitting in park idling is pretty loud and when you give it more gas it gets louder. does it right from start up i put it in gear and it goes away a little. got underneath and it sounds like towards the front of the trans front of the pan kinda. Noticed it after a long 1hr 1/2 drive on the intersate. Cheanged the fluid/filter a couple months ago and used the new black bottle trans fluid ford says to use. Mercon / Mercon V also meets mercron 3 i think it says.
My trans about ot go out? The shifts feel great. no slipping so i dunno?? |

Are you sure it's not a belt? The sound you describe sounds more like a worn belt on the engine than a transmission problem. |

I would check the following.
1. Transfer case fluid level.
2. When you changed the internal transmission filter, you may have left the old O ring in there.
3. Power steering pump is low on fluid or the fuild is just cooked. If its jet black and stinks it cooked.
4 Or possile a bad belt tensioner. Thats where I would start. |
