I'm been in a "mod" mood recently.

Today I put on my 08 tow mirrors (w/signal & running light). They aren't power fold or telescope but they weren't $1000 either! Let me tell you that these mirrors are a HUGE upgrade over the previous ones! The convex part is about 3 times as big and the square design really matches the 05 grill and my new 08 wheels.

I also added the 08 Super Duty console and took out my center jump seat. It'll be nice to be able to switch back and forth as needs dictate. Since I had to install it I took the time to remove every seat and the carpet to soundproof the floor with some B-Quiet Ultimate. It is much easier to shampoo the carpet when it is in your living room.

Going the other way (in years), I took off the black dash bezel (sold it) and replaced with a grey one from an 04. There was a bit too much black starin' at me with the bezel, wheel, trim etc. etc.

Next is getting the 4.30's installed, Rhino lining the roof section between the rack rails and doing 5% tint on the second and third row side windows.

I'll add pics one of these days...

I'm sure the mirrors look great. How about a tutorial? I too have an itch that needs to be scratched with something new to put on my X. I've thought about doing the switcheroo with 08 mirrors but the limited research I've done show that the switches that control the 05 mirrors do not work correctly with the 08 mirrors. True? False? ( the teacher in me )

I put towing mirrors on my old 99F250SD and fully know how to install the mirror body... my only hesitation has to do with the wiring... so how 'bout a tutorial?

BTW... I heard gas is 4.40ish in the Big 5-0... true?

Since I installed the large round C-Betr mirrors to mine, I don't have an itch to go with the '08 mirrors. But man, oh man ... I am lovin' those wheels! Now how can I explain to Mrs. Landyot that y'all made me get a set?

The switch works but the left and right control of the mirror is reversed. Not a huge deal. But if I can figure out which wires at the switch control left and right function, I'll just swap those two by pulling the wires out and swap their positions. Got a wiring diagram?

1. Pull the sail panel

2. Remove the door panel. Lift front of window control portion and remove, disconnect plugs, remove the 8mm? you just revealed, remove lower reflector/light with screwdriver (pry up), remove other 8mm bolt, lift door panel straight up.

3. Disconnect the plug from the mirrors. It is behind the plastic vapor barrier. Match up the wiring by colors. Both sets of mirrors have the same color and number of wires. If I recall, the truck has 2 yellow wires (power) that match up with the one yellow wire from the mirrors. I cut the plug off the old & new mirror and matched the wires up. I left about 3 inches of wire from the old mirror's plug and cut the 08 mirror's plug off flush. Strip the wires and use (your call) closed end splices to secure the wires together.

4. Undo the four bolts that hold the mirror. You need to remove the rubber plugs to expose two and behind the sail panel there is a piece of vapor barrier that reveals the other two.. Have the window down so that you can stop the mirror from falling down.

There IS a locater nub on the mirror body where it goes onto the outside of the door that has to be removed. I used a small saw. (10 seconds)

One a scale of one to ten of difficulty with 10 being a "pain in the butt, hire someone else to do it" and one being "Gee, that's a nice sticker I just put on the window" this is a 3.

No, that's diesel. Gas is about 2.70 here. and 2.54 in Honolulu.

Ken,

Thanks for the info... Since you've joined the "20 club", I'm going to have to join the "08 mirror" club.

I have a set of shop manuals... I'll search for the wire diagram when I get a chance... right now gotta go outside and have a catch with my boys... Oh, I love the smell of spring in the air!!!

Spring? What's that?

I have some in my mattress. Did your mattress fall apart and make the spring shoot into the air? Are you making your boys try and catch them?

I made a small correction on the little write up I did. I had put that I cut the truck's wire but you don't ever cut the wire that goes to the truck itself.

That wiring diagram will be helpful! If it is the Ford diagram though. Don't bother. Their diagrams suck. I can read wiring diagrams but theirs just don't work for me. They aren't intuitive at all. Of course, if YOU can decipher it.

I've been thinking of putting on an 08 rear bumper next. It's blockier in design and matches better than the "curvy" one we have now.

GAWD...will it ever end!!??!!

If my mattress falls apart, we're all going to be like you... surrounded by WATER!!!

I too have given thought to a rear bumper swap... a 3rd club?

Final thought... when you spoke of right/left control, were you referring to the "little switch" that controls the juice to the drivers side/passenger side mirror above the "joystick" that controls the mirror itself or the rt/lf conrol of that mirror "joystick"?. Understand?

The joystick that controls the mirror itself. When I push right the mirror goes left. Not a big deal since I don't really adjust them that much.

I think the rear bumper is the same between the 150 & the 250. It'll match so much better. Even the mirrors and their blocky design match SO much better. Viewing the truck from the rear, the are the same shape as the taillights. Putting on the bumper would really complete the look.
