Guys,

I only wish to remove the oil filter from my 7.3L as I need to replace it at get an oil sample so that I can have my synthetic oil checked for breakdown and quality.

When I remove that filter how much oil will come flowing out of the engine? Only what is in the filter?

Thanks,

Bowden

You don't want to take the oil from the filter as it'll backwash alot of crap that'll foul the sample.

The only true way to get a clean sample is to drain the oil pan and fill the bottle about halfway thru the drain process that way all the chunkage drops out first.

Get a "Fumoto oil valve." Simply remove the OEM oil pan drain bolt, bolt the valve in that spot. Then from now on, just use the lever on the valve and let it drain for a sec, then take yer sample. MUCH easier.

I usually drain about a quart, take my sample, then add a new quart up top. Fast n easy.
