Hi Guys,

First, let me say that my stress level is down about 50% tonight after finding out I'm not the only guy out there trying to put 20" KR rims on an 05 X. I bought the X 2 months ago and it had some chrome rims that had to go. Bought the KR rims, then discovered my problem. First tried 1/2" spacers, then considered going w/Fred. Then looked into wider replacement axles, etc etc etc. Now convinced to go w/Fred and the 2" spacers.

3 quick questions... first, with Fred's 2" spacers can you turn 100% without hitting the leaf? Second, why aluminum vs steel? Third, did you tell Fred how long to make the studs on the spacers? Assuming 14 X 1.5, but how long? 1.5"?

Thanks.. will post up pics here within a week. Identical to 71-4r3sons, just white w/tan trim.

Cory - WELCOME to the X-Files!

Yes ... the only rubbing I encountered was the tire tread against the rear wall of the left front fenderwell splash panel. I drilled a few holes, pulled it back and secured it with some nylon tie-wraps. No more rubbing ... anywhere.

Second, why aluminum vs steel?

Aluminum may be lighter, more stiff and less prone to oxidizing, but after 30-plus years of building ships and submarines, I opted for the steel (I painted mine). And yes, I have experience with aluminum ... aircraft elevators are made of aluminum. Have seen aluminum crack without too much advance indication, and decided I didn't want to take that risk with my wheels. Having one fall off would pretty much ruin my day.

To the best of my knowledge ... meaning I didn't measure them ... Fred uses lugs which protrude the same amount as the OEM lugs.

Thanks for the confirmation. The old rims that came off already had that left front cut out as well. Weird, you would think the left/right would be the same, but, something tells me they design to turn right a little harder than left (think about road direction.. you never have to make a HARD left)... nonetheless.

Thanks for the confirmation. Will post up pics in a Saturday.

Anyone with long term updates on the 20 inch oem rims? Just bought Fred\\'s spacers but no one will (licensed tire shop) mount the wheels/tires with the spacers on.
Is this set up holding up or should I reconsider?

I sold my '05 X in October, and the 20" wheels and 2" spacers were all still in excellent condition. Had no issues at all with 'em.

Thanks for your response. Tire shops also said I would have to do a re torquing every 100 miles. What do you recommend to torque the spacers to to keep them tight? Anyone else besides ebay with factory 20 wheels & tire setups for sale?
