I have a few questions concerning the rear differential cover on my X. I noticed the diff was starting to leak a little so I decided to change out the oil. I discovered the cover is rusted much worse than I thought. My question is should I replace it or try and clean it up and reuse it?
If I replace it does anyone have a suggestion for an inexpensive replacement that won't disintegrate in a few years. Thanks, Mark |

I would not try to repair/refurbish yours when a much higher quality, rust-resistant, factory cover is available and so inexpensive.
The 08 Aluminum, finned rear diff cover is a inexpensive choice. I have it on mine. It was less than $$50 total. You'll need longer bolts (5/16-18 x 1.25", I got them at my local ACE for .50 each) and some RTV to mount it up.
Try www.directfordparts.com ask for Mike if you call. I got mine for $41.76.
Part # 8C3Z-4033-A
Another option is to go through here. Here's got everything together...'cept the RTV.

If you have a limited slip differential, I believe you need to use an additive for the oil. Follow the manual closely, I've heard too much or too little can greatly affect the performance of the limited slip.

Thanks Monsta, I've been searching for covers I didn't come across that one, looks like a winner to me.
Jetfixr, Yes I did get a tube of the slip lock additive, also I haven't bought gear lube in a while man is that stuff expensive.
Thanks again, Mark |

If you use oil, such as Royal Purple, you don't need to use friction modifier.
