I've done some reading, even here, and I see thoughts about improved MPG but I'd rather get some info from people who have actually upgraded their Excursion and gotten better mileage.

I currently drive a '93 Sonoma with 240,000 miles and a 2.5L 4cyl and I'm lucky to get 18mpg. I'm tired of driving a small vehicle with such crappy mileage even after a full tune-up and maintenance by a mechanic; the truck never got great mileage and the power is anemic at best.

A friend of mine has a V8 F250 and he also lives close to his work and he only fills up every two weeks. I live 4 miles from work (public transportation is a no-go and riding a bike here in South Florida is not a great idea considering the heat/weather and neighboorhood I have to drive through) and I can live with the current gas mileage that I have...IF it were in a larger vehicle. If the Excursion can dance with 16MPG, its a realistic option for me because I can find them for less than $5000 in decent shape down here for a gas engine model and under $10,000 for diesels.

I don't need to tow anything and I'm not a contractor needing a work rig. I just want more power and more space if the mileage is comparable. Every fast food restaurant near me has never heard of using grease in diesel engines, but I have seen it from Top Gear and Fifth Gear television shows in England to the Mythbusters in the US. I like to talk to people who have first-hand experience and this is the place.

Does anyone have any real world proven results in mileage nearing 18MPG?

Is there a club in South Florida for Excursion owners?

Is the Powerstroke too new to properly utilize vegatable oil like the older VWs and MBs can?

Should I look at a V10 (I've read people were disappointed with the power of the V instead of a diesel because I'll never see the savings with a diesel?

goto yahoo groups and search WVO, lots of groups and good info on WVO fueled vehicles.
the powerstroke is a easy convert to a supplemental WVO fuel system.
I added a separate WVO tank and supply two years ago-works fine.
Your location in a warm climate makes it even easier for you, most of the time you wouldn't have to preheat the WVO supply.

I have real world proven results that an exhaust system change and intake change alone will give you over 18 MPG.

I have an'03 6.0 Excursion. I have 35" tires, 3.73 gears. I have an Edge "Attitude" Chip. Last weekend I traveled from Phoenix to Tucson and back, at an average speed of 72 mph. I averaged 21.2 MPG round trip. I had my odometer calibrated by for several months ago, and will assume it is accurate. I love my Exc........

I've Googled but found nothing. Is there a South Florida Excursion Club? The Net is great but nothing beats meeting people and talking IMO.

You can try www.ford-trucks.com. They have state chapters. There could be a number of Excursion owners in that chapter. Also check out the Excursion forum there.
