Had a gas 2000 and traded for a 2002 4X4 EB Limited with a 7.3L. Got 80,000, Its been cold but not that cold! Even after cyling glow plugs 3 or 4 times , had to have another ford f250 jump me till I got it started. Pluged it in and still slow to start. Changed fuel filter, had no H20 in fuel but still hard to start. Anything I can check? When I got this unit I purchased an extended Warranty so I'm trying t iron some of these things out. I know I replaced the universal joints on the front of my 2000 with the same millage, these have not been changed. This is my first disel, it seems like it wants to raise and lower rpm while drivng, someone advised it sounded like the tourqe converter. I pull a 35' trailer, and do not want to end up on the side of teh road. The post with the front leaf spring replacement was the best DYI I have ever seen. Nice job !!! Interested in adding a rear spring. Any Ideas or things I need to look at will be appreciated!!!
Oh yea thinking of a bully box or something to boost power when towing trailer good or bad? Do not wnat to change the blower and exhaust if I dont need to ..Have a K&m air filter. |

You should definitely check out the torque converter and the tranny, especially if you are towing and before you use a power adder.
I lost my torque converter at around 80K also. The transmission place changed mine to a torque converter from an F-550. I later switched to synthetic transmission fluid, a PML cast transmission pan and a transmission cooler. I have had no problems with the transmission since that time.
The transmission place explained that the the torque converter is the weak spot on these transmissions and they all go eventually.
