Just got a 2001 X, 7.3L 4x2 w/ stock everything. Nice wheels, but they're 265 75 16's on 16 x 7.5's. Would really like to get more wheel and more rubber in there. Anyone know how large I can go without lifting? It's only a 4x2 and I'm "vertically challenged" so really don't want to lift it. Would like to get 295 or even 305's on there, on 18's, but don't know if they'll fit or what kind of aspect ratio that leaves. Appreciate any words of wisdom or lessons from experience. Thanks!/KM// |

On a 2WD, most say that 285 is the limit. 305s will certainly give you clearance problems.

Thanks. 285-65-18 is the only "book answer" I could find. I'll probably stick with that unless anyone else has been able to squeeze a larger tire in there. |

Just put a brand new set of 285-75-16 E-load range Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2's on my 4X4 Limited...best deal in town was $682 (not including tax) installed at Discount Tire...don't pay a penny more. I actually got them done for $682 total (I'm tax exempt) and it was a "beat a Firestone deal". I got a quote from a Firestone store for $702 (not including tax) and Discount's policy is to beat it by $20. These tires sell for about $240 a piece normally.
The guy at Discount Tire was NOT happy, but I was!!! ;-)
I went with a 285-75-16, and it looks AWESOME. Don't go any larger unless you are lifting the truck and using aftermarket wheels...it will look ridiculous unless you are making these mods. This is the next step up from stock, and the largest tire you can use without problems. |
