I need your recommendation.
I want to put an EGT gauge on my 6.0L. A single EGT is almost as expensive as one of those electronic-LCD display units that show A LOT of information besides EGT.
I don't need a tach or transmission temp. gauge (already have them which are part of the instrument cluster.
I've read about the tuner programs and don't want them yet as I don't want to fool with the engines programming. BUT....if the tuner program and a code read out can be obtained from one of those single LCD units I'll take it. Having more information at my finger tips (even if I don't care about exact fuel pressure) would be nice as I love gadgets.
Like I said- I don't want to re-program my engine YET.
Any ideas?

I suggest you just install an exhaust manifold EGT gauge. How often do you have codes? Hopefully not too often. OTOH, you have a 6 leaker so...... LOL.
Reason I prefer my gauges seperate is so I can change them easily when there is a malfunction. When my trans temp gauge took a dive because a piece of wood hit it, I could fix that relatively easy.

Thanks for the idea.
Since these fancy type Diesels with computer control have me concerned about what exactly they're doing when running, I would like to have a code read out. You're probably right but I don't want any surprises when the "check engine" light comes on.
The Edge gauge price isn't much different than an EGT and boost gauge while the Edge will provide more "valuable" information.....that I'll probably never need (so I can impress myself). I had one experience with the Ford dealership near us that left me concerned that "these people don't know what they're doing". Thus, I really don't want to visit them again without knowing what the problem is.
I know PowerStrokeHelp.com recommends the SCT code gadget.
Any ideas on that that? |
